Examples of MBA Case Studies

There are countless MBA case study examples that you can find in books and on sites. But who are the legends and which organizations, people and business ideas changed the world? Here we have provided 3 examples of MBA case studies which you can use to study the way businesses and big organizations function and work.

Cola Wars

One of the best sample business case studies can be the cola wars in the United States consumer markets. The specialty of the cola wars is that the field of business marketing and advertising was greatly advanced. If you are a marketing major looking for MBA case study examples, then this is exactly the stuff for you. The cola wars that were fought to dominate the 'cola' markets in 1980s and 1990s, between Pepsi products, Coca-Cola products and Dr. Pepper (Snapple Groups). The cola wars also marked the development of several related concepts such as branding, packaging, optimized logistics. The supply and demand side of the consumer also drastically developed, giving the modern consumer market new direction. Marketing strategies and the marketing mix devised by these companies are legendary in taking the market by storm.

Semco

Well, if asked a personal choice, Semco is one company for which I would willingly work. Why do you think am I suggesting Semco as a part of MBA case studies? Well, simple, Semco, a Brazilian company, has its own style of working.

If you are majoring in human resource management, then this is one company that will astound you. Ricardo Semler the top gun of the company took over this aristocratic establishment from his father. Semler insisted and executed drastic changes in the company. Semco is known in the corporate world as an ideal example of change that suits human beings. Semler, instilled in his employees, the fact that every human being is an honest human being and has a sensitive soul. Based on this principle, the company undergoes changes every day. Some land mark examples, include, a paperless office, where there are no secretaries but just responsible executives doing all the work themselves. The company has all workers suggesting changes and participating in research and development. The company is an apt example of workplace democracy, with workers electing their superiors and middle managers participating in meetings at all fronts. The office, incidentally does not have walls, but desks are separated by small plants. You can present these policies as MBA case study examples. One last fact, the turn over spanned from $4 million in 1982 to $212 million as of 2003.

For Ricardo Semler, the biggest achievement is a simple phone call to the HR department of the company, in which a worried wife of an employee inquired, as to what was happening to her usually dictating and very-strict-with-kids husband, who had now become a very happy, loving, caring and tender person. Fact is Semco can not only change workplace environment, but it has changed entire communities.

Apple

The pleasant, half bitten apple of Apple Inc is a much recognized and admired logo. The Apple computers company becomes a great example among all the MBA case studies due to the fact that Steve Jobs and his company, know their products and they know their technology. The company aims at high consumer satisfaction, and advancements for the consumers are generated as we speak at the movement. The company is all about moving on and developing for the new tomorrow. Every management student should study the economic model and vision of the company who does it all to push mankind into the future. To put forth the company's specialty let me take the liberty of Steve Jobs himself,

"We're gambling on our vision, and we would rather do that than make "me too" products. Let some other companies do that. For us, it's always the next dream."

What can a management student learn from the company? Excellence, high-end research and development, originality and perfection in every detail. The entire picture of the company is imprinted in a single sentence by its co-founder, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."

These samples of MBA case studies are worth studying, as they are amazing examples of business success.
